Prospectus of The Bridal Industry AssociationWedding traditions in Japan have been developed into one of the most important rituals in one's life. The origin of this ritual can be traced back to the samurai proprieties established in the 15th century. Indeed, it has been practiced among commoners for such a long time.

Since the early 1950s, wedding rituals, which traditionally took place at one's home, began to be performed at specialized wedding halls, public facilities such as a public hall, Japanese inns, and specially prepared rooms at hotels. Along with this shift, the wedding reception too has started to be held at those places.

The Japanese have enjoyed the prosperity attained in the last fifty years since the end of the Second World War, and throughout this period we have always been seeking the better "hardware", such as well-equipped, more stylish wedding halls, as well as more distinctive "software" including manners of staging and performance on the occasion of marriage.

As a result, the bridal industry has greatly contributed to the development of not only our bridal culture but also our dressing and eating habits. The industry has grown into the five trillion yen market. However, the industry cannot always fulfill the demand of its customers due to the recent diversity in wedding styles. The era of respecting individuality has arrived! In addition, the number of couples desiring a wedding abroad has been steadily increasing, which results in a drain within the industry.

Talking about facilities and services, lack of detailed information of the service provided and the indistinct charge system often confuse customers. This is often caused by the un-uniformed contract guideline.

In July 1994, we formed the Bridal Industry Association, which was then a voluntary organization, with the aim of training qualified specialists who can offer useful and proper consultation to customers, while dealing with the above mentioned problems. The Bridal Industry Association has also engaged in various activities for the last 16months, including a program to educate bridal-coordinators-to-be. However, the voluntary organization has limited autonomy, and it became an urgent matter to have an organization that can provide services in accordance with the diversified needs of customers and the rapid social change. The training of experts to meet the customers' requirements and the setting up of the customer oriented system had priority for the new organization, and through these further progress of the bridal industry could be achieved.

We have determined to consolidate the position of the bridal industry by means of improving the organization, training specialists, promoting R & D for betterment of management and service in quality, and providing information for customers. With the realization of these issues, a healthy development of the bridal industry would be accomplished, and customers' confidence could be won.

Considering the above, we agreed to dissolve the voluntary organization and to establish an incorporated association under the name of Japan Bridal Industry Association. Its primary objectives are to carry out R & D concerning the bridal business, to train the professional, to organize a wide range of programs and workshops, and to present various events. These are all intended to encourage a wholesome development of the bridal industry and to make a significant contribution to enrich our living culture.
